Why Amazon Was Falling Today

The e-commerce giant said it would be going on a hiring spree. So what’s wrong with that?

What happened

Shares of e-commerce and cloud giant Amazon (AMZN-1.68%) were falling in today’s trading, down by as much as 3.2%, before recovering to a 2.7% decline as of 12:44 p.m. ET.

With the stock up so much this year — it has returned 67% in 2023, after all — it appears even small concerns may get magnified in a pullback for shares.

That seems to be the case today, as Amazon issued a press release that could be construed as good news, but that the investment community took as bad news.Read more about the study…
