South-east Asia’s ecommerce juggernaut Shopee sets sights on Latin America

As part of a recent television commercial flash in Brazil, the Southeast Asian e-commerce app Shopee replaced the words with the infectiously catchy ‘Baby Shark’ tune with his own name.

The company, which is owned by Singapore’s headquarters, hopes the overwhelming earworm will keep the platform in mind for customers as it seeks to expand into Latin America’s $ 105 billion online shopping market.

Sea, whose largest shareholder is the Chinese technology group Tencent, is backed by solid financial firepower. Despite the loss, its shares in New York have risen 680% since the beginning of 2020, giving Sea a nearly $ 170 billion market value, close to that of Shopify, as Covid-19 boosts e-commerce in Southeast -Asia caused.
